Mary ‘Mz. Skittlez’ Seats born on May 22, 1987 in Cleveland, Ohio is a celebrity stylist, artist, and CEO of Cupcake Mafia. Ever since Skittlez was young, she always had big dreams and was full of determination. She grew up in community where money was scarce, but fortunately the lack of resources forced her to creatively use what she had. At the age of 13 she began making clothes, putting various colors in her hair, and laying the groundwork of what would become her signature style. Music has been a part of her life as far back as she can remember. While attending elementary school, she found her passion in entertainment, but it wasn’t until high school that she slowly emerged as a very talented female rapper. But after the death of one of her best friends in ninth grade, her life took a turn for the worse. With no other way to cope, she took a pen and a pad and began writing. Skittlez knew that the only way she would be able to tell her story was through her music. Although her confidence and optimism persevered in her the passion for rap, it wasn’t until her senior year of high school that she became serious about her music. Skittlez’s fast rise to fame became apparent among her classmates. And with such an amazing sense of style and an appeal, she took the initiative to distinguish herself from the other young rappers in her area. During the summer of 2006, she went into the studio to record her very first major track, and as a result her admiration for music fostered many more songs. But in the midst of her success, another tragedy prevailed again in the death of her older sister Denise McCoy. After finding out her sister committed suicide, she realized that her music was her only way out.
In 2007, Skittlez yearned to deliver a message to her listeners that would allow them to relate to her unfortunate experiences while remaining responsible and mature. Although she was very successful, soon music wasn’t enough, so she decided to use her styling skills and fashion expertise to start her own clothing line. In 2011, Skittlez launched Cupcake Mafia with only $300 and 30 t-shirts. Its purpose was to ignite an intense movement of uniqueness and originality. With just an office space the size of a closet and a dream, Skittlez and her team worked every day to see the company succeed. And in just 3 short years, Cupcake Mafia is now located in over 800 stores and 15 countries.
While Skittlez and Cupcake Mafia have been successful, she never misses an opportunity to give back. The Save the Cupcake Foundation is dedicated to the research, cure, and education of Breast Cancer awareness for women. 20% of Cupcake Mafia’s proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Her dedication for the cause is due in part to the loss of her grandmother to breast cancer, and as a result she has used her love of fashion to keep her grandmother’s memory alive.
This future mogul refuses to let anything get in her way!
